"Michael Hoban and his wife, Annie Jordan, were living in Mara by 1871. Michael received the patent for Lot 1, Concession 7 and it was there, along the shores of Mud Lake, that Michael, Annie and their young family lived for several years. The Hobans did not remain in Mara very long; in the late 1870s the Hoban property was sold partly to John Guindon and his family, and the remaining portion was sold to Patrick Donnelly.
Michael's wife, Annie, was a daughter of Martin Jordan and Cecelia Garrett. Annie's sisters were: Ellen (Mrs. Peter O'Donnell, and later, Mrs. Patrick Mangan), Bridget (Mrs. Patrick McGrath), and Cecelia Sarah, the only JORDAN daughter who was born in Canada (Mrs. Richard Barker).
The Hobans moved to Carden Township and later, the family moved to Selkirk, Manitoba. Although the family name did not remain in Mara Township, Hoban ties are still claimed through the Jordans, to several local families, including Barkers, McGraths, Mangans, and O'Donnells."
