I have been researching the GILBERT family in Baltimore and later Harford County, MD for some time and have accumulated a lot of information. Several members of the family moved to Bedford Co., VA. However, I haven't been able to verify much about the early years of my many times gr-grandmother, Nancy Ann Gilbert (or Ann). Several sources say that Nancy Ann or Ann's parents were Garvis/Jarvis Gilbert and Elizabeth PRESTON Gilbert. She must have been born not more than a year before her father died in about 1754. She was born about 1753/54. Garvis must have died about 1754. His estate was finally settled in 1756. Elizabeth married (2) Michael GASH on 11Aug 1754. Then by 1763 they were in Bedford Co. when Michael Gash's son Thomas married an Elizabeth Gilbert. Garvis and Elizabeth had a daughter named Elizabeth but I'm not sure if she is the one who married Thomas Gash or not. They were not in any way related but they would have been raised together. I just recently found the inU Michael had a warrant of certain description, which was eventually assigned to person:Abner Willis (1) who used it about 1810 to secure property on Locust Cove Creek in what is now Smyth County.

Update: Michael Gash Jr. was granted a treasury warrant June 14th, 1783 for Treasury warrant # 17157. Abner Willis was an assignee of a warrant # 17137 which was granted to John Donnell. The numbers were misread.--ruthnevada 13:34, 11 January 2013 (EST)
