Came to Liverpool, ENGLAND in 1930 and joined the Irish Guards, serving with them until 1933, leaving as a L/CPL. He was on the Army reserve and employed as a wages clerk for a company in London until re-called to the Colours in 1939, at the outbreak of WW2. He was quickly promoted to CPL, then SGT and served with the 1st Bn I.G. in the Norway campaign of 1940. In 1942, he transferred to the Airborne Forces, becoming a WOII in the 1st Bn Glider Pilot Regt. He soon became a Pilot and was promoted to RSM (WOI). He then served in North Africa and took part in the invasion of Sicily and then mainland Italy in 1943. In 1944, he was back in England and took part in the battle of Arnhem, flying troops in on 17 Sep 44, fighting and being wounded, then being one of the lucky ones to break our on 26 Sep 44. He was awarded the MBE and Dutch Bronze Lion for bravery. At the end of the war he was commissioned as a Lt (QM), in the GPR and served in the Palestine campaign of 1946. Later as a Captain, in the Airborne Forces, RASC Air Supply units. He served in Germany and Cyprus during the 50's and transferred to the RAPC as a Paymaster Captain to the Airborne Forces. He served as their Paymaster and was promoted to Major. He retired from the Army in 1971. Died of cancer in 1991.
