"Melvin Albert Wardwell, Jr., 35, town treasurer of Penobscot, who died last Sunday, is the son of Mrs. Belva Wardwell, who is well known at Belfast. Services were held in Penobscot Church Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. William W. Peck officiating and the members of Rising Star Lodge F.&A.M. attended in a body. Mr. Wardwell has been in failing health for the past year. He is survived by his widow, Adeline, his mother, Mrs. Belva Wardwell, a son Millard Albert; a daughter Marilyn Ruth, and a brother, Elliot J., all of Penobscot." -Portland Press Herald 31 January 1947
