Facts and Events
Funeral home records say funeral was arranged by Mrs. William Murphy, but I think it was probably her daughter, Anna Murphree. She applied for a pension as a widow of a Confederate Veteran August 1, 1901 and was approved for $50 on August 20, 1902 in St. Francis County. Her physician, J. D. McKnight found her "wholely disabled" due to her age and "not in the least" due to vicious habits on July 26, 1902. County Clerk, J.H. Stutts (probably J.W. Stuart) signed "proof of service" stating that he was well acquainted with William Elliott and that William served in the McChills(?) regiment of the Arkansas Infantry and the 8th Kentucky Cavalry. Signed on July 25, 1901. R.T. Adams (Justice of the Peace) (was a 4th Sergeant in William's Company) and J.M. Whittenmore (probably Whitamore) (was private in same Company) from Graves County, Kentucky signed a similar statement saying William had served in Company C of the 8th Kentucky. Witnessed by J.P. Adams (maybe J.C. Adams from same Company) on July 12, 1902. Was probably the daughter of Elisha and Susannah Adams. (See 1850 and 1860 Graves County Census) References
