Maurice E Elder April 14, 1917 -- June 28, 2004

Maurice E Elder, 87, of Wooster died Monday at home.

He was born in Bowling Green, the son of Ward and Jessie P (Bruner) Elde r.

He retired in April 1982 as the first vice president, cashier and a direct or of Bank One of Wooster, NA. In 1946, he entered a 36-year career in ban king at the National Bank of Fremont. In 1966, he moved to Wooster to beco me cashier of Citizens National Bank (Bank One).

He was a 1960 graduate of the Central States School of Banking at the Univ ersity of Wisconsin. He served in the U S Army during World War II.

He was a past president of the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce in 1974, w as a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Ebenezer Lodge 33 F&AM of Wooster, Sco ttish Rite Valley of Canton and was a member of the Al Koran Shrine. He w as a member and past president of the Wooster Kiwanis Club, served on a nu mber of community organizations, was a member of the Wooster Elks Lodge si nce August 1967 and was a longtime member of the Wooster Duplicate Brid ge Club.

Surviving are son, Richard T (Lenore) Elder of New Berlin, Wis.; daughte r, Catherine M (J Timothy) Hamlin of Hopewell, Va.; grandchildren, Pame la (Michael) Rubio, Brian Elder (Diane Blasing), Kira Hamlin and Kylene Ha mlin; great-grandchild, Alexander Rubio; and sister, Mildred Smith of Bowl ing Green. He was preceded by his wife, Helen M (Tolhurst) Elder, on Oc t. 9, 1993, whom he married July 21, 1945.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. today and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at McIntir e, Davis and Greene Funeral Home, Wooster. Masonic memorial service: 6: 45 p.m. today.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James Episcopal Church with the Rev. Eve lyn Manzella officiating.

Burial: Wooster Cemetery.
