  3. There is no birth record for Mary in the Ipswich VRsS1, so one naturally wonders how Mr. WhippleS1 was able to obtain such a precise birth date as 20 Oct 1684. Unfortunately no explanation is found, leaving it for us to try and recreate the process. The very precise age at death suggests that perhaps we could calculate the birth date to the required precision. There is just one problem: it calculates to 20 Oct 1683, one year off from the given birth date. But since Mr. Whipple reports her age at death as 50, not the 51 carved on her gravestone, we are left wondering if he made a bookkeeping error with the age at death, and propagated it throughout.
