"Mary Watkins was a granddaughter of Mr. Jeremiah Judson of Stratford. He named his daughter Sarah Sturges and granddaughter Mary Watkins in his will, dated 21 February 1698 (Fairfield Probate District, Connecticut Estate Files, docket no. 3517). No birth was registered for a child of David and Sarah (Judson) Watkins prior to David's death at about the age of 22, but the probate court noted on the second Monday of December 1788 [error for 1688] that 'Sarah Watkins the relict of Decesed David watkins sd Administrator … to take the said estate into her hands & therewith to bing up [torn] Daughter & when her Daughter comes to the Age of eighteene years or marry [torn] shee is to have the one halfe of the above Estate & which is to be paid to the said Daughter in money or moveables' (Fairfield Probate District Connecticut Estate Files, docket no. 6704). … The widow's dower thirds were set off on 12 August 1752 (Fairfield Probate District, Connecticut Estate Files, docket no. 6761)."
