Balch, Mary, w. Ens. John, d. John and Rachel Tuck, [died] Feb. 20, 1742, a. abt. 60 y. Balch, Mary, w. John, [died] ---, 1743. CR2 [If the first record means 1742/43 as we should expect, these may very well be the same person.]
↑Source:Balch, Galusha Burchard. Genealogy of the Balch Families in America, p. 25, interprets Mary's death date as 20 Feb 1741/42, but the published vital records says 1742, and the intent of the explanation on p. 1:3 seems to be that the records will be given as recorded, unless it is clear from context that double dating should be used. Here double dating is not used, so 20 Feb 1742 is presumably the date recorded. This date should be expected to mean 20 Feb 1742/43 since Feb. was legally considered the 12th month of the year until 1753. Since Mary's husband's remarriage wasn't until Dec of 1743, it does not rule out either possibility. So this appears to simply be a date error by the Balch Genealogy.
