'Mary [child of Edward and Elizabeth (Gifford) Sale, recorded at Chesham], bapt. 21 Oct. 1604 [footnote: Did she m. (1) John Gove, and (2) John Mansfield of Charlestown, Mass.?]'

Torrey identifies the wife of John Gove and John Mansfield as Mary Shard (and it appears from other secondary sources that a marriage record has been found for this marriage, and that Shard was her maiden name). In the entry for John Mansfield, Torrey indicates "Mary [?SALE/SHART]". The speculation that Mary Sale married John Mansfield is based on the fact that her brother-in-law Christopher Gibson mentioned "our sister Mansfield" in his will (see discussion NEHGR 65:66). However, it is not certain how "our sister Mansfield" was related to Christopher Gibson.

Based on the most recent research, it appears that there is no reason to believe that Mary Sale married John Gove and John Mansfield.
