She and her brother, Jabez, left home at an early age for Middlebury, Vermont where her sister, Lois Jones had already located with her husband and family. Sometime after 1803 both she and her brother went with the Jones family to Canton, New York. During these years Jabez and Mary came to know the Footes in Middlebury, with one or both being employed by them.

   The family find no record in Canton Old Cemetery. If she outlived her husband, she probably lived with a daughter's family and removed with them. Mary and brother Jabez were with the Footes and Birds in Middlebury, one or both by them; but they had also been with sister Lois in Canton.
