Mary Katherine Romantum, 83, of Topeka, Kansas (formerly of Independence, Missouri), passed away Sunday, December 28, 2003, in Topeka. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church of Independence, 100 North Pleasant, Independence, Missouri. Burial to follow in Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery, Independence. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at the church.
Mary was a school teacher and a Navy wife. She traveled to all 50 states and much of the world, including the Far East and Europe. She loved volunteer work especially when it involved literacy. She was a marvelous seamstress who loved genealogy, stamp collecting and crossword puzzles. She was a member of the DAR and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence.
Her parents and her husband, P. Paul Romantum preceded her into death.
Mary is survived by one son, Mike Romantum and wife, Donna of Independence, Missouri; two daughters, Susan Romantum Marquardt and husband, Victor of Cleveland, Ohio and Lisa Romantum Schwartz and husband, Jim of Topeka, Kansas; one brother, John H. O Dougherty of Florissant, Missouri; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
