Extensive research in the area of Wootton Bassett revealed two possible christenings for Mary in the parish of Purton. Both christenings were in the same year, 1740 of two brothers, John Morse (who married Catherine Shailer in 1733) and christened 13 July 1740 or of Richard Morse (who married Mary Norton 26 January 1737/38).

It is not certain which christening is ancestral. Mary has been attached to both sets of parents with the link challenged.
