Mary Moore was baptised on 13th February 1801 at Maidford in Northamptonshire, daughter of Judith Moore, formerly Emery, and her husband Robert Moore, a labourer. Mary was the eldest of their seven children.

In 1817 Mary’s father died.

On 13th October 1823, aged 22, Mary married Thomas King at Haseley in Warwickshire, nearly thirty miles north-west of Maidford. After their married they settled in Warwick, having six children baptised there between 1824 and 1839, although two of them died young. All the children’s baptisms give the family’s abode as Saltisford, the main street out of Warwick to the north-west. Thomas worked as a shoemaker.

The 1841 census finds Mary, Thomas and their four surviving children living on Saltisford.

Mary’s mother died in 1844 in Northampton, where she appears to have gone to live with Mary’s youngest sister.

On census night in 1851 Mary was lodging away from home and working as a nurse elsewhere in Warwick whilst Thomas and the children were still living on Saltisford. Later in 1851 Mary’s eldest daughter married, and Mary’s first grandchild was born the following year.

By 1861 Mary and Thomas were still living on Saltisford, but only had their youngest daughter still living with them. They also had four boarders and lodgers in the house.

Mary died at Saltisford in Warwick on 20th December 1862 from heart disease. She was 61 years old. Thomas survived her by less than six months.

Baptisms 1801 / Feb[rua]ry 13th Mary the Daughter of Robert and Judith Moore

This baptism has been linked to the Mary Moore who married Thomas King on the basis that it is in the parish she gave as her birthplace in the censuses as an adult, and at around the time implied by the ages given for her. No evidence has been found to suggest that the Mary baptised at Maidford in 1801 died young or married anyone there.
