MARY MCCARTHY (1818-1896)

Mary MacCarthy came to Dubuque (which was then a territory of Louisiana) at age 16, and two years later married William Burke. She was a woman in a thousand, highly educated, and a devoted wife and mother and a devout Catholic, whose life was enabled by her high conception and attainment of her duty.
