Mary Forsey was baptised on 7th June 1775 at Winsham in Somerset, daughter of Ann Forsey, formerly Sibley, and her husband James Forsey.

In 1802 Mary married an agricultural labourer named Samuel Matthews, who was from the nearby parish of Chillington. They had several children together at Winsham, before moving to live in Chillington.

Mary died in 1841, aged 65, and was buried at Chillington on 7th February. The census later that year finds Samuel living with their youngest son William. Samuel would outlive Mary by thirteen years.
