Facts and Events
Name Mary Fitz Randolph
Gender Female
Birth? Est 1749
Marriage Bef 19 Jun 1771 to Stephen Vail

The book "Moses Vail of Huntington, Long Island", p. 380 (citing Louise Azmar Christian of East Orange, N. J.), claims that Mary Fitz Randolph, born 1749, daughter of Robert and Catherine (Taylor) Fitz Randolph, married Stephen Vail (as his third wife) and had children from 1772 to 1786.

The book "The descendants of Edward Fitz Randolph and Elizabeth Blossom, 1630-1950" claims (p. 31) that the Mary Fitz Randolph who married Stephen Vail (as his third wife) was (p. 17) the daughter of Samuel Fitz Randolph and his second wife Johannah Kinsey, born 25 Mar 1731. This is not possible, as Stephen's second wife had children from 1772 to 1786.

The book "The Descendants of Edward Fitz Randolph and Elizabeth Blossom" claims that Mary Fitz Randolph, born 1749, daughter of Robert and Catherine (Taylor) Fitz Randolph, married 4 men (including one whose estate was administered in 1785) and had no children (and thus could not have been the wife of Stephen Vail).

It is unclear which Mary Fitz Randolph married 4 men and had no children, and which married Stephen Vail and had 9 children. The latter must have been born somewhere between about 1742 and 1755, and was said to have been "a cousin" of Stephen's second wife, Sarah Smith.
