Mary Alice (Mackie) Cockerel Dealey Passed away peacefully on May 19th at the age of 90 yrs old.
She was born July 30, 1918 in Dallas, Texas. Her parents were Clarence Marion Cockrell, Sr. and Alice Naomi Mounts Cockrell. The Cockrell's are descendants of Dallas'
founding family, Alexander (Texas Ranger) and Sarah Horton Cockrell (1st millionarie woman) and the LaReunion Colony (a group of French people who inhabited Texas). Raised in a family of six siblings on Gaston Ave., there was never a dull moment.
She loved attending Kanakuk Kamp in Branson, Missouri as a young girl. Upon graduation from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1936, she attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she also pledged Tri-Delt. It was the depression and her parents sadly told her they already had four children in college and she could not go, as they didn't have the resources. However her opinion was different, and with the help of a neighbor, another founding family of Dallas John W. Carpenter and working multiple jobs she went and graduated.
Mackie, during World War II, married Walter Allen (Al) Dealey, Jr. at marine headquarters in Quantico, Va on March 2, 1943. Mackie had three sons, Norman (Arley)
Cockrell Dealey John Carpenter Dealey and George Bannerman DealeyII. The family spent many summers at YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado.She was a devoted wife, mother and loving sister to her 5 sisters and brothers. She enjoyed trips across the country with her children; and participated in many activities including, her beloved church, Junior Garden Club, water skiing, square dancing, and ballroom dancing to name only a few. She was a founding member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church and active in a host of organizations including Old City Park, Tri Delt, Churchill Way Presbyterian Church, Rotary Ann's, Junior Garden Club, Model A and Square/Round D. Mackie was a kind and loving woman to all she touched! She will be greatly missed, but the memories will always be cherished.
Mackie is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ruth Wilson, and her three brothers Clarence, Bob and Joe Cockrell and her beloved son George.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at Preston Hollow Presdbyterian Church at 9800 Preston Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to our beloved, in her name to: Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice. Mackie was a kind and loving woman to all she touched!
