A Mary H. Brown (as opposed to Mary J. Brown) was located in the 1850 U.S. Census for Hart County, Kentucky (Series M432, Roll 204, pg. 268). She is listed as the 16 year old daughter of Patrick H. and Louise A. (?) Brown. Her five siblings were William V. (13 y.o.), Francis (female, 11 y.o.), James (8 y.o.), Alfred (7 y.o.), and Homer (3 y.o.). One other interesting notation that the census-taker placed next to Mary's name was "Hotel". According to Jeffrey Jewell (Jeffrey.Jewell@@Louisville.edu), Charles Cecil was Mary J. Brown's guardian and gave his consent for her to marry John M. Thomas. This information was also located in the Carlsbad Library, "Hardin County Kentucky Marriages 1830 to 1850". Stephen F. Brown gave surety, but it is unknown what his relation was to the bride.
