BARRIT, Mary, d. Joseph and Mary, [born] Aug. 12, 1715.

  2. Although Mary is said to have married Noah Emery in "Thomas Barrett of Braintree, William Barrett of Cambridge, and Their Early Descendants" in NEHGR, Vol. 42, p. 260, no mention of her, him or any heirs, occurs in the probate of her father. This suggests that it was a different Mary Barrett, and that this Mary d. young.

There is a marriage record in the Chelmsford VRS, in 1743, of Noah Emery of Townsend to Mary Barrett. But Noah Emery was born 1720 and this Mary would not be a good match, being 5 years older. It appears the cited article made this match purely on the basis of elimination, since the will of Jonathan Barrett names Jonathan's daughter Mary (the most likely candidate, b. 1721) as wife of Thomas Stearns. But, a little digging in the Chelmsford VRs also turns up the 1747 burial of Noah Emery, and the 1750 intentions of Thomas Stearns of Littleton to Mary Emery. So it was the daughter of Jonathan, not the daughter of Joseph, that married Noah Emery.
