Obituary from the Gazette and Courier Greenfield, Mass. February 20, 1897, page 7:
WARWICK
Mrs. Mary Ann Green, widow of the late Joseph W. Green, died at her home last week Friday evening. She was born in Warwick August 3 [sic, 8th per town records], 1822, and was the daughter of John and Harriet Moore Ball. Her health was feeble for a long time and a few weeks ago she fell, sustain[ing] injuries from which she was to[o] weak to recover.
She leaves a sister, Mrs. Williams of Athol, two children, Mrs. Harwood L. Procter and Leslie Green, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. [G]reen was well educated and had taught in both the day schools and Sabbath school. She was an earnest Christian, a member of the Unitarian church, a constant attend[ant] until within two or three years, one of the most active workers in the society. She was a capable, energetic and public spirited woman, interested in all that was good for the community. In her home life she was a loving wife and mother, an affectionate friend, and always glad to do deeds of kindness for the sick and needy.
The funeral, which was held at her late residence Monday afternoon was attended by Rev. George F. Piper of Northfield as Rev. Mr. Abbott was not at home.
