Mr. Martin Charles Ruprecht.

The death occurred unexpectedly on Tuesday morning last of Mr. Martin Charles Ruprecht, of Wynter St., Taree, at the age of 81 years. Born at Oxley Island, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ruprecht. He remained on the island, purchased a farm, and then married Miss Jane Lee, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Lee, of Port Macquarie. After having spent some years on the farm, he decided to lease same and, with his brother-in-law, Mr. Matthew Brown; purchased the Taree butchery business of the late Mr. John Belford, then conducted about where Mr. Billingham's store is situated, in Victoria Street. After being in that business for some years he disposed of his interest therein and returned to his farm at Oxley Island, where he remained for a number of years, but the dealing experience he had in the butchering business called him back to business again, and he then went in for stock and pig dealing in a big way, and travelled the whole of this and other districts in pursuit of clients, . Seventeen or 18 years ago, he decided to retire from active work and came to Taree, where he made his home for the remainder of his days. Some six or seven years ago he and Mrs. Ruprecht paid a visit to Western Australia, where be had a married sister, Mrs. M. Brown. Readers of the 'Times' will remember some interesting descriptions of that portion of the rural area of the West supplied by him. At home he was an active member on public bodies which worked for the uplift and progress of the district. He was a member .of the committee of the M.R. A. .and H. Association for many years and was a liberal supporter. He also was on the committee of the M.R.D. Hospital in the old days and in later life was a member of the Taree Bowling Club. He always had great faith in Taree and invested quite a lot of money in this town, where the majority of his family are still located. He was a man easy to approach, considerate and patient in all his actions, which, no doubt, accounted for his material success in life. For many years he took a very active interest in religious matters and when the Salvation Army made its advent to this district over 50 years ago, despite the fact that its form of religion was new to him, he gave it a big helping hand, and was always a liberal supporter of it. Up till the time of his death he had always been a staunch adherent of the Methodist Church, and liberally supported it. In fact, when he passed away he was a communion steward, a position he had held for many years. Some three months or more ago he underwent a serious operation and, although he appeared to have recovered he did not regain his old strength and activity. Yesterday (Tuesday) morning , between 7 and 8 o'clock, he had tea and then had a rest on a couch, where he went to sleep and passed away — a peaceful passing, such as he would have wished for. He leaves a widow and the following family: Messrs William, Herbert, Ernie and George Ruprecht, of Taree; Mrs. O. Kell, of Sydney; Mrs. B. Burnard, of Taree; and Mrs. Jack Treloar, of Kendall. Surviving brothers and sisters of the deceased are Mr. George A. Ruprecht, Victoria Street, Taree; Mr. Joseph Ruprecht, Port Macquarie; Mrs. Matt. Brown, Western Australia; Mrs. Rebecca Doherty, Castle Hill; Mrs. L.. Redman, Broadmeadon; Mrs. H. Ford, Moorland; Mrs. W. Drury, Taree. Deceased: Mr. Charles Ruprecht, Jones' Island; Mrs. C. Emerton, Taree; and Mrs. J. Yearke, Port Macquarie. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon last, following a service at the Taree Methodist Church, to commence at 1.30, the interment to be made in the Dawson Cemetery. The Rev. W. T. Cross will conduct both services.
