Ellen = Pond. -Nicholas Ellin, m. Mary Pond 3(5)1663.
[The above thought to represent the death of a wife Martha and possibly a son John with a marriage shortly thereafter to Mary (Bull) Pond widow of Robert Pond. Note Nicholas Ellen names Mary's daughters Mary Pond and Martha Pond in his will. There certainly could be other interpretations given the "Sarai Ellen" who joined the Dorchester church in 1653, Martha could have been a second wife, a daughter or some other relation as could Sarah].

[This appears to be the sole evidence that Nicholas Ellen had a first wife Sarah.]

  4.   Torrey identified the first wife of Nicholas Ellen based on the record that Sarah Ellen joined the church in 1653 in Dorchester. Some have posited that Martha who died in 1660 was his wife but she and John Ellen who died two years before her were likely their children. Alternate explanations are would also fit these facts. For now I'm leaving her as Sarah per Torrey's New England Marriages.
