Dollie Barnett Stamps was born Martha Belle Barnett. She hated her birth name, and never revealed it to her children, who came to believe it was "Evadna", the same as her sister. It wasn't until 2004, when I (Timothy F. Stamps) found clues that Evadna could not have been her name: 1) I found a distant cousin researcher's chart showing "Martha Belle" as being born about the time as she, and then saw the gravestones for Evadna Barnett and William Drake in Jerffersontown Cemetery (where another sister, Rebecca Barnett Napier, is buried). Then I found the marriage bond for Rev. John Judson Stamps and Martha Belle Barnett, which was final proof.

Mrs. Dollie Barnett Stamps died September 17, 1928. She was buried in Tampa, Florida, at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, September 21st at 3:30.

Funeral services for Mrs. D. B. Stamps, who died Monday afternoon at her home in Orlando, will be held here this afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Rev. Claude W. Duke, pastor of the First Baptist Church, of which she was a member, will conduct the services. Interment will be made in Myrtle Hill cemetery. Pallbearers are J. M. Cooley, D. H. Marbury, D. H. Sumner, W. C. Milton, W. F. Lucas, and W. D. Napier. (paper had "W. R.", but should be 'D') Mrs. Stamps was the widow of the Rev. J. J. Stamps, and is survived by two daughters and three sons, Mrs. C. V. Jackson, El Paso, Texas; Mrs. W. D. Napier, Orlando; R. K. Stamps, Los Angeles; J. H. Stamps, Birmingham, and the Rev. F. H. Stamps, Memphis.

Her daughter Ivey sent a Western Union telegram to Frank H. Stamps:

As related by letter (written Sept. 18, 1928) to Frank H. Stamps from his sister Ivey, Dollie's daughter:

She had been "unconscious for five days and while her breathing was hard she was not conscious of any suffering. She began with one of those same sick spells and I believe she knew she couldn't get well this time. She asked that a doctor give her a hypo & he kept her under the influence of [them] for 3 days, then she fell into a stupor.

Her last breaths were so peaceful and without the least struggle.

We thought of taking her to Knoxville but I am too worn out to take the trip and besides the expense.

We expect to live in Tampa so will take her there. We expect to leave here Thursday morning and funeral services will be over there at Funeral Parlor Friday morn. or Fri. aftn.

I cannot go into detail about everything. We, Day & I, went & picked out nice gray casket (white satin lined) while she was so sick the past week, I prepared all her clothes. I'm barely touching facts. Can't bring myself to do otherwise. With lots of love to both. Ivey.

We did all we could for her comfort."

My dear Frank and Hazel,

I wonder where you are this cold night. I hope you are good and warm and well. I sure hope that cold is well by now. Don't take too much ereoterpin. I sure was glad to get your letter Frank for I had looked & looked for a letter, or gust write a postal when you're very busy. I hope and am praying you are having a good meeting, but take good care of yourself. How cold has it been out there? Before & during mas was beautiful _ but it turned cold Jan. 1st and the thermometer registered 3 below zero. It lasted 3 or 4 days then went up high and we've had beautiful spring weather when it rained and turned cold again, but the days are beautiful again tho some what cold or chilly.

I have had a time with rheumatism. My hand would swell on top, sore place in the middle, and my how it would hurt. After days it would commence to leave and the other one git sure and swell up. Then my right wrist sure made me ery it hurt so bad. Now it's gone up to my elbow & commenced in my left wrist. It sure is an unwelcome visitor. Your Aunt Ella said get whiskey and put yellow root in it, but getting the whiskey that's the rub. Albol' Bros. medicine is the finest thing yet, but you can't get it here. Say, listen, write gust a note to Amy Lois and send it to Kriss and find out if she is there. I wrote her a letter and sent her my picture _ and Ivey & I fixed her up a real nice little box. I wrote the letter before mas and asked her where she would be mas. I wanted to send her the little gift box, and I haven't had a line from her. What do you know about that? Must close. Keep warm.
