At time of 1881 census, he was resident at 67 Devonshire, Islington, Middx. and described as "Licensed Victualer" aged 57, born Shields, Northumberland.
At the time of Elizabeth's marriage, he is described as 'Hotel Proprietor' and resident at 78 Walworth Road - Census search indicates that this property was in fact 'The Flying Horses' public house. At time of 1891 census, he was not resident at that address.
