This first letter By Wallace York completely confirms that this is my great grandfather Albert C. Nelson's father William and his family. The address for Albert noted in the letter, 1566 Logan, Denver Co. was indeed correct. My great grandmother Pearl- Albert's wife, filed for a delayed birth certificate in 1956, and listed the Logan Street address. Years ago, when I sent for cemetery records on Albert and Pearl, the cemetery sent me a record of another Nelson. I have not run across this name before do you know who Alberta Cox Nelson b. 1 Nov 1885 or Mrs Kathleen Taylor are? I wish I had some of the information refered to in these letters. But, I was only told a few stories, such as were Albert was born, and that he left home at 14. I did not even know who his father was until I ordered his Social Security card. Everything else I have learned from vital records, obits, cemetery records and census. Unfortunately, I do not have anyone to ask. Sincerely, Demaris Thevalleyflorist@aol.com wrote: The following information was copied from letters written by Wallace York toVal Johnson. The letters on separate peaces of paper, I’m not sure all the pages are there and the writing is very had to read. I have done the best I can to make sense out of the letters. Forgive and errors, some of the names were next to impossible to decipher.Sincerely, RoseMarie Nelson Mentzel Pocatello, Idaho May 6th, 1959Dear Val,In answer to you letter of the 2nd as to putting a marker on Grand Mother Olsen’s, grave. The only one that can or knows where Grand Mother’s grave is would be Uncle Eugene. His office had all the records; they were burned up in a granary fire where he had stored them. Grand Mother had a family record that Eugeane had and it was to be given to me, but she was so inconsistent, she would not look for it for me. I was to see her some three different times about it but she would not put her self out to look for it. The records I have I got from the records in the Salt Lake City genealogy library. Grandmother (MariaOlsen Nelson Higginson) had her work done in 1904 and she died in 1905. She was endowed to George B. Higgins on 10 April 1873. He was baptized Nov. 1852. Index card to Endowment house or temple records #5208, Book H. Page 402. Grand Mother had the work done for Great Grand Father and Great Grand Mother Olsen with Uncle Eugene help on May 19th 1904. This sealing was done by Brother John R. Winder and Witnessed by Bro George H. Taylor and John W. Warlly. Great Grand Gather Ole Olsen was born at Skelskare Denmark. About the year 1810. Great Grand Mother Karin H Hansen Olsen was born about 1812 at Skelskare Denmark. So if you want to do some genealogy work this is a good starting point. I have gotten quite a bit on Grand Father Peter Albert Nielsen also but no one seems interested as I have ask some of the folks to see some of the people at Cedar City, Utah that ought to know some thing and have never had a answer to my letter. It takes the heart out of a person when it comes to have some help to carry on the work. The last two letters I wrote to Martha Mettelal at Elko Nevada, I have had no answers so I wrote to Eva Mildenhall to see if she know any of her and have never had an answer. I have begun to think what is the use to do any thing only for my own use. I have worked every time I have had the means to do so. I think I will have quite a lot more Genealogy this spring and I have had some help promised me on getting records that haven’t been registered. What I have of Grandmother Olsen is quite a mixed up affair bit I have hope of things so they can be put together. George Higginson was a woman chaser and has sure got things mixed up in the York family and the Higginson family. You are the only family I send and receive Christmas Cards from every year. Your Mother should have some records of Grand Mother and family. I was not around home at Santaquin much after I was 17 years old. I went to Canada in 1903 and never come back to live in the states until 1912. I have no other records that what I have given you. Hoping all of your family are well . Well I hope to hear from you as you have the time to write. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year.Wallace, Violet and Catherine(Wallace York and wife Violet their daughter Catherine)Of Pocatello, Idaho Pocatello, Idaho May 12th, 1958Dear Val,Received your letter this afternoon. We’ll answer right back. There are some of the records you ask for, I don’t know as to Uncle Lew (Louis, I assume) I was quite young and don’t know the year of birth or death. He was buried at Santaquin. Aunt Mimmie, Eva’s Mendenhalls Mother should have some records if Eva would take time out and look. Beth is Eva’s sister. Their address is L.J. Myrups 1796 N. 1350 E. Provo, Utah. Clyde Clark & Family address is 2826 S. 2520 E. Salt Lake City, Utah. Uncle Eugene son lives at the old home at Santaquin; he is an Engineer for the U.P. and works at the Steel Plant at Provo or West of Provo. One of the Daughters lives in Delta, Utah. Her address is Mrs. Frank Van DeVonter. Vans Motor & Supply Company375 Clark Street-P.O.Box 322 Delta, Utah. My Mother name is Katherine Oliva Nelson York Born January 9, 1863 at Goshen Utah. Baptized 1872 at Goshen Utah. Died December 1885 at Santaquin, Utah. Uncle William Nelson, Mothers brother and I do not know date of birth of date of death. He has a son living Denver Col., his name is Albert C. Nelson, his address is 1566 Logan St. Denver Col. He may have record of his Father his is the only son of Uncle Williams. If you have any pictures of your Mother and of Grand Mother Olsen Higginson, I would like to borrow them so as to have some taken off for our book of remembrance and will return them to you. We are fairly well, but none to brisk. Hoping all of you and your family are enjoying the best of health. William Wallace York. Pocatello, Idaho March 13th, 1958 Dear Val and Family, Just received your letter and plan to hear from you and to know all were well.Momma, (maybe his wife Violet) has been ill most of the winter but is feeling pretty good again the last two weeks. It seemed as though she could not get over the effects of the flue we all had the first part of the year. Catherine hasn’t been feeling too good for the last two years. She fell on a peace of ice on the side walk on night as she and her Mother were coming home form the community concert, the got nearly home when her feet went out from under her. Boy what I wouldn’t give for that book of remembrance Wallace spoke of!!!! I hope you can make some sense out of this.Hope to hear from you real soon.Love,RoseMarie Nelson Mentzel
