Maria Manuell was baptised on 20th February 1803 at West Markham in Nottinghamshire, daughter of Edward Manuell and his wife Elizabeth.

On 8th June 1828, aged 25, Maria married William Bonser, a boot and shoe maker. They married at Gainsborough in Lincolnshire, about sixteen miles north-east of West Markham, which is where Maria was said to be living at the time of their marriage. William was from the village of East Stoke in Nottinghamshire, and after their marriage they went to live at East Stoke for a time, having their only son, Manuel, baptised there in 1829.

Maria and William later left East Stoke and moved to the town of East Retford, where they lived at the Butchers' Arms Inn. Maria died there on 29th September 1834, aged 31. She was buried back at her native parish of West Markham. William survived her by nearly thirty years.
