Maria Truax was constantly in trouble with the authorities, and was finally banished from New Amsterdam in 1664, for shady business dealings and keeping a disorderly tavern. She was prosecuted for selling brandy to the Indians on 30 December 1663 at New Amsterdam, New York County, New York. She was was fined 500 Guilders and banished from the island on 3 January 1664 at New Amsterdam, New York County, New York. She as one of the oldest inhabitants of New Amsterdam, petitions for a remission of the sentence pronounced against her and leave to remove to Fort Orange.
