!DEATH-PROBATE: St. Mary Parish, LA, District Court, succession record #880, photocopy of pp. 355-392 plus some versos in possession of Karen Theriot READER. Estate of Marguerite B.[ERTRAND] RENTROP. Petition on p. 359 dated 12 Mar 1855 states that "Madam Marguerite B. RENTROP, late of the Parish of St. Mary, departed this life on the 24th of February 1855, in the City of New Orleans, where she was on a visit." Dying intestate, she left as only heirs Caroline RENTROP, wife of P. J. PAVY; Valsin H. RENTROP; Pamela RENTROP, wife of Dr. John RHODES of the city of New Orleans; & Pamela RENTROP, minor child of Dorcino L. RENTROP, deceased, being represented by her mother Modeste GUIDRY, widow of Dorcino, residing in St. Mary Parish. Pierre J. PAVY and Valsin H. RENTROPE applied for and were appointed administrators of the estate on 14 Mar 1855.

    Inventory beginning on p. 356 is dated 13 Mar 1855, Estate of Margaret B. RENTROP, deceased was ordered sold at public auction: the land and slaves on credit on one, two and three years from day of sale; personal and moveable property for cash for sums $50 and below, credit of 12 months if over $50. Purchasers in cases of credit to give their notes with good approved personal security in solids, bearing eight percent per annum interest, land and slaves to remain specially mortgaged in favor of and --- until full final payment. Note: tracts of land or sugar plantation in Berwick's Bay, St. Mary, LA containing about 2,146 arpens, bounded above by land of Henry BRADLEY and below by Dr. BRASHEAN and estate of Dorsino L. RENTROP, estimated value $55,000. Household and kitchen furniture valued at $500; closed carriage and harness, $250; three horses, $375. One lot of cattle valued $315.
    There were also seven slaves: John, a negro boy age 22, $1200; Alice, a mulatto woman age 36, $1000; Mary, a mulatto girl age 14, $1000; Rose, a Negro woman age 36, $1200; Rebecca, a negro woman age 50, $1100; Harriett, a girl 17, $1000; Rhody, a negro woman age 50, $700. All for a total of $78,285.98. Notes due the estate bring the final to $89,570.65. This amount was filed on 26 Mar 1855.
