Mrs. Pattison Fatally Hurt - East Side Woman Is Killed When Struck by Auto Saturday Night Is Struck While Crossing Street

East Sunday was a sad day in the Pattison home, 921 Beckford St as Mrs. Clark Pattison, age 60, was fatally injured at 8:40 PM Saturday when struck by an auto operated by Irwin Frutchey, 114 West Madison St. She was struck by the car in East Washington St about 150 feet east of Winslow Ave.

According to Frutchey, Mrs. Pattison steped from the north sidewalk between parked autos and started across the street. Frutchey’s auto was going east. The left headlight struck Mrs. Pattison, knocking her down. The car stopped within 30 or 35 feet of the accident. A physician near the scene of the accident was summoned. After an exam he ordered the unconscious woman rushed to a hospital. An ambulance arrived and made a hurried trip to the Jameson memorial Hospital. However, Mrs. Pattison was pronounced dead upon examination there.

The injury which caused death was a fracture at the base of the brain. Mrs. Pattison according to Coroner Orville Potter was enroute to visit at the home of M/M Griffith J Lewis who reside at 1204 East Washington St about 8:40 PM. Frutchey with his siter Ruth in his sedan had been to choir practice at St. Johns Lutheran Church and were enroute to East New Castle when the accident occurred. He told Patrolman Carl Lockhart and Police Matron Minnie McKibben who went to the scene that cars were parked along both sides of East Washington St where the accident occurred. Frutchey said Mrs. Pattison came from between parked cars on the north side of the street and owing to the parked cars on the south side he could not avoid the accident. He stopped his auto as quickly as possible within 30 or 35 feet distance and went to the aid of the unconscious woman. City police were summoned and (p2) while Patrolman Lockhart and Matron McKibben were collecting the facts State Policeman Jack Bradbury arrived at the scene.

Mrs. Pattison was born in Union Twp 9 Nov 1874, the daughter of M/M Jno Winter, and she lived her lifetime in the city. She was a member of the Third United Presbyterian Church and took an active interest in all its activities. She was president of the East Side WCTU.

Surviving are her husband Clark Pattison, a daughter Mrs. G. Wilfred Thomas, 210 Sumner Ave, 2 grandchildren, Marjorie and Miriam Thomas, 3 sisters Mrs. Nannie Haven, Mrs. Mollie Cook, Cleveland, OH, and Mrs William Miller Kane and 2 brothers john H Winter, Charleston, WVA, and Edward W. Winter, Union Twp.

Funeral services for Mrs. Clark Pattison 921 Beckford St will be held Tuesday at 2:30 PM from the home with Dr. SB Copeland pastor of the Third United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be made in Graceland Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Clark Pattison were held Tuesday afternoon from the family home at 921 Beckford St and the home would not contain all the friends and neighbors who came to pay their last respects. The lovely floral tributes attested to the high esteem in which she was held. The services were conducted by Dr. SB Copeland pastor of the Third United Presbyterian Church of which she was a faithful member, assisted by Dr WE McClure of the First Presbyterian Church.

Interment was made in Graceland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Glenn Orr, Roy McCown, Harry Thornberg, JW Rupert, Willis McNickles, and SH Johnson.

Exonerate Man in Auto Death Jury Finds Accident Fatal to Mrs. Margaret Pattison Was Unavoidable: Witnesses Give Same Versions

Obituary, 17 April 1955, no newspaper cited Clark S. Pattison, aged 84, of 210 Sumner Avenue, died at the residence at 5 PM Sunday unexpectedly, although he had been in failing health.

Born in this city January 26, 1871, he was the son of William S. Pattison and Rebecca Stevenson Pattison.

He was a retired motorman for the old New Castle Electric Street Railways. His wife, Margaret E. Winter Pattison died in 1934.

Mr. Pattison was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are one daughter Mrs. G. Wilfred Thomas, this city, three brothers, JRA Pattison, Lakeland, FL, Ralph A Pattison, Clairton, PA, Russell J Pattison, Niles, OH, 2 granddaughters, and six great grandchildren.

Services will be held 2:30 PM Tuesday from the John R. Hodge Funeral Home, Wallace Avenue in charge of Dr. J.Paul Graham. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery,

The family will meet friends at the funeral Home today from 2-4 and 7-9 PM and until service time on Tuesday.
