Stephen3 (Stephen2, James1), born in Kittery, Me., Jan. 2, 1702; married first, Oct. 25, 1726, Anne, daughter of Peter and Mary (Lang) Staples. After her death he married second, Nov. 30, 1749, Margaret, daughter of Daniel and Margaret (Gowen) Emery. He resided on his father's homestead. He acquired land in "Pudding Hole Common" in partnership with Richard Rice, and sold it 14 March, 1747. He and Margaret sold, 27 Jan. 1752, land in Berwick inherited from her father, Daniel Emery. He died about 1788.
The widow Margaret made her will 16 Sept. 1788, proved 20 April, 1795, bequeathing to her "son in law" Stephen Tobey, daughter Lois Kelley, Nathaniel Gerrish, Thomas Claridge, and Ann Claridge, Elizabeth Avery and her own brothers and sisters.
