1927 - Obituary, Bracebridge newspaper: The close of life for Mrs. Walter Finch ended a difficult and painful illness, but many friends throughout the community felt a sense of loss and sadness in her passing. Mrs. Finch died at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital on Saturday morning. Mrs. Finch was the former Iola Margaret Brooks, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs. Wesley W. Brooks, and was born in Bracebridge. In 1927 she married Walter Henry Finch, who predeceased her on Nov 14 1967. She was the dear mother of Wm Wesley Finch and Walter Murray Finch, and also leaves 6 grandchildren. Mrs. Finch was the sister of Mrs. Harry McFadden (Genevieve), Mrs. John Olimer (Audrey), Mrs. Alex Bennett (Hazel), all of Bracebridge, Stanley Brooks of Midland, and Tom Brooks and Mrs. Roy White (Velma) of Bracebridge. She also leaves her stepmother, Mrs. Wesley Brooks, a half brother Ian Brooks of Bracebridge and two half sisters, Mrs. Charles Gibson (Margaret) of Toronto, and Mrs. Don McCann (Olive) of Scarborough. Mrs. Finch was predeceased by one brother John Brooks, who died in an accident in April 1958. Mrs. Finch was active in the community and in the work of First Baptist Church, Bracebridge. She was a charter member of Snow Queen Rebekah Lodge, I.O.O.F. the officers and members of which held their beautiful memorial service at the chapel on Sunday evening. Committal followed at the Bracebridge United Church Cemetery.
