The family of Marcella Ruta Tayek, 100, of Monona, Iowa sadly announce her passing on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Gundersen Health Center, La Crosse, Wisconsin. At the same time we rejoice that she is now with her Lord and Savior and reunited with her husband, Donald who passed away in 2000. Marcella was born October 3, 1914 to Ewald and Hilma (Klinge) Sabbann in Farmersburg, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and a 100 year member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. Marcella was united in marriage with Donald Tayek on January 1, 1937. They lived many years on the farm near Watson, Iowa and moved to Monona in the late 1960’s.

Marcella attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa after which she taught in a one room rural school. She enjoyed a full and active life in her church as Sunday school teacher, ELW member, committee member for the new church and Altar Guild. She helped many years at the Flora Shop making corsages for Mother’s Day. Her passions were for her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She did cross-word puzzles daily.

Marcella is survived by her daughters, Maxine Johnson of Alta Vista, Iowa and Marlys (David) Kaiser of Regina, Saskatchewan; sons, Roger (Bev) Tayek of Marion, Iowa and Ronald (Gloria) Tayek of Farmersburg, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Robert Sabbann of Rochester, Minnesota.

Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her grandsons, Jake Tayek and Mike Johnson; her parents; twin sister, Mardella Houg and a brother, Don Sabbann.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 4-7 pm at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa with Rev. Erika Kielstrup as the Officiant.

Burial will follow at Monona Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
