Marc Allen Mains was born March 22, 1950, in Algona, Iowa, to Ellis and Evelyn (Crapser) Mains. Marc graduated from Algona High School in 1968 and joined the United States Navy, serving in Vietnam on the USS Midway as a boiler attendant. Following his discharge, he moved to Montana where he met and married Linda Robbennolt in November 1973. The couple moved to Algona in 1976 where Marc was employed at Snap-On Tools. The couple later divorced. He also spent many years in the Navy reserves.

Marc enjoyed bowling, spending many years on a league, enjoyed cars and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of ABATE. Marc was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Algona.

He died at his home in Algona on Tuesday, October 10, 2012 at the age of 62.

Survivors include his daughters, Tracey and husband Michael Lukehart of Ankeny; Marcy Mains of Lakeville, Minnesota and Cristy and husband David Napp of Forest City, Iowa as well 12 grandchildren, Sean, Bailey, Ryann, Evan, Cade, Piper, Kaylin, Jaydin, Shania, Adam, Noah and Mara. Also surviving is his father Ellis Mains of Algona; sister and brothers, Ellen Mains of Algona; Terry Mains and wife DeVon of Algona; Charles Mains and wife Debbie of Urbandale, Iowa; Dennis Mains and wife Paula of Algona; brother Randy Mains of Superior, Iowa and brother Jimmy Mains of Algona. Marc was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.
