"This township was organized September 4, 1815, and is situated in the extreme northeastern portion of the county ...... It contains thirty-six full sections of land, much of which is underlaid with coal.....
The first to effect a settlement in Chippewa township were ........"Major" South....and some others whose names are now unknown."
