         In Memoriam.S1
         Whereas, it has pleased the Divine Father to remove from our midst, Mrs. Mahala Rush, we, as neighbors and friends, desire to express our sympathy to the bereaved family and relatives who in this have lost an affectionate parent and loving friend.
         Mahala Rush (formerly Mahala Holmes) was born in Floyd County, Indiana, November 16, 1819, and removed to Lawrence County, Indiana, at an early age. She was married to Jno. C. Rush January 29, 1839, in Lawrence County, Indiana, and soon afterward moved to Greene County, where they lived until their death. The husband preceded her almost one year. The deceased was the mother of eleven children, two of whom are dead, and nine are living to mourn the loss of their dearest earthly friend. Mrs. Rush united with the Protestant Methodist church in the year 1850 and her friends and neighbors say of her life, it was one of purity and worthy of [patronage] and a life which will assure a calm and peaceful closing. She departed this life January 3, 1896, being 76 years, 1 month and 17 days old.

         How sweet to think that on our eyes
         A lovelier clime shall yet arise;
         That we shall wake from sorrows dream
         Beside a pure and living stream.
