An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on May 22, 1924 for Mrs. Lucy Andes, stated she had died at the Shelby County Memorial Hospital, Saturday [May 17, 1924]. Lucy C. Shanks was born in Shelbyville on November 27, 1841. She was united in marriage to Daniel D. Andes on October 17, 1861. Mr. Andes enlisted in the Union Army in February of 1864 and passed away in the military hospital in Memphis, Tenn. To this union two children were born, a son dying in infancy and a daughter, Alice J. Andes, who for many years was a teacher in the Shelbyville schools, passed away in September of 1891. Mrs. Andes was a member of the Methodist Episcopal. Funeral services were held from the home of A. J. Andes on North Broadway, Rev. M. G. Coleman officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.
