- ↑ 4.0 4.1 4.2 Except for the marriage and some census entries, very little about Luana is found, and most information is speculation based of these vague details. Madison and Luana are found in Mexico, NY, in 1850, 1860 and 1865, as cited. Then, it is assumed that the Nelson Erskine in Mexico in 1870 (line 30) is really Madison since he has what appears to be two of the children (Ella and Carrie) in his household, by comparison with the 1865 census. So he appears to have a wife with different name, close in age but different birth location, he appears to have remarried. Hence, the assumption Luana died in Mexico, NY, between 1865 and 1870. In 1865, mother Dolly Allen, born about 1783, is living with Madison and Luana (Allen). Searching for a Mr. Allen residing in Vermont (where the census says Luana was born) with wife Dolly between about 1800 and 1820 yields Elijah Allen who m. Barre, MA, 1804 Dolly Rice and moved to Wilmington, Vt. Thus the speculated parents and birth location. Elijah Allen d. Wilmington, VT, 1830, but no further records found for this family.
