Decease of Mrs. L. R. Swain

Mrs. Lucy A. Swain, wife of L. R. Swain, who for two years past has been in declining health from tuberculosis passed peacefully to her final rest on Sunday morning, the 19th. at her home in East Whittier.

The deceased was born in Jefferson Co., Kansas, July 29th, 1861, and fifteen years ago was married to Mr. L. R. Swain, who with two children are left to mourn her loss. During her protracted illness she evinced marked patience and sweetness of spirit and she approached the final close with calm resignation to the Divine Will.

A largely attended funeral service was conducted at Friends Church Thursday afternoon by Mrs. Esther Hiatt, assisted by Rev. Thomas Armstrong and Mrs. N. M. Arnold. WHITTIER, CA. REGISTER.

Mrs. Swain was born in this township, and was a daughter of the late Andrew Rice, and a niece of Larkin Rice. She leaves here a mother and several brothers and sisters to mourn her decease, in which they have the sympathy of all our citizens.

A funeral service for the benefit of the friends in this neighborhood will be held at the Edmonds church next Sunday morning, the sermon to be preached by Rev. Frank Marshall, assisted by Hon. Matt Edmonds.
