Information from Kay Abeyta, gdaughter of Louis Philip Guinard Jr. kabeyta@wyoming.com

Came to US in 1854, naturalized citizen.

Louis P. came to Wyoming Territory in 1856 to work as a clerk for his uncle, Louis Guinard. In June of 1865, his Uncle Louis Guinard drowned in the North Platte River while trying to mend his toll bridge. Louis P. inherited the toll bridge and trading post at North Platte River now known as Fort Caspar and the toll bridge and trading post at Sweetwater Crossing near the Independence Rock west of Fort Caspar. Both toll bridges and trading posts were burnt down and completely destroyed in 1868 by the Cheyenne. Louis P. left the North Platte bridge and trading post with the U.S. Calvary to go to safety at Fort Fetterman before the Cheyenne reached North Platte. He then returned to Quebec, Canada, where he married Flora Millard. He stayed in Quebec until 1876 and then returned to the Wyoming Territory leaving his family in Quebec. He built and operated a toll barge over the Green River near LaBarge, Wyoming. He married Elizabeth Jackson in 1878 and raised a large family in Wyoming. He died on his homestead near Lander, Wyoming, in 1912.
