Sundance Times, Sundance, Wyoming, April 14, 1938 – ANOTHER PIONEER CALLED WHEN MRS. CLINT WELLS ANSWERS FINAL SUMMONS – Once again we are called upon to chronicle the passing of another pioneer of this region. Mrs. Clint Wells, who passed away at the ranch home on Saturday, April 9th, after a lingering illness. Lottie Pearl Bell Odell was born at Vermillion, South Dakota on September 1st, 1870. She remained in that frontier town in Dakota Territory until she was 12 years of age, coming to Wyoming with her parents in 1882. On September 13th, 1885 she was united in marriage to Clinton H. Wells. This ceremony performed by the late Hon. J.P. Gammon, was the third marriage ceremony performed in Crook County. For a time the couple resided in Sundance, their original log cabin still stands on the Elmer Frank place. Later they took up land on what is now the Johnstone Brothers place, and still later moved to the ranch home where Mrs. Wells died, and where they made their home for 49 years. To this union four children were born, two of whom preceded their mother in death. Elmer passing away at the age of 27 years, and Henry passing away a few years ago at the age of 41 years. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Clint Wells, one son Raymond of Marmarth, North Dakota and one daughter, Edna Hubbard of Belle Fourche, a nephew Leland Wells of the Savageton country, who with his wife attended the funeral, and one niece, Mrs. Art Montgomery, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Methodist church, Rev. Grove officiating and interment was made in the local cemetery. Mrs. Wells was a devoted wife and mother, a good neighbor and her friends were only numbered by her acquaintances. Her passing will be sincerely regretted by all.
