OBITUARY
Mr. L. V. Mitchell
One of the most popular residents of Lansdowne, in the person of Mr Lloyd Valentine Mitchell, passed away in the M.R.D. Hospital at 8 p.m. on Monday. He had been ailing for several months, arid entered hospital a fortnight before his death. He was a son of Mrs Mitchell, of Lansdowne, and the late Edward William Mitchell, who passed away at Coopernook a few years ago. He was born at Bungwahl 63 years ago, and lived in the Myall Lakes district until he was 14 years old, when his parents moved to Lansdowne, where the subject of this notice spent the rest of his life, with the exception of a short period at Coopernook. For many years he operated his own carrying business, and in recent years was employed at Bryan and Sons' mill at Lansdowne, but failing health compelled him to give up this work about three months ago. The late Mr Mitchell was a man who enjoyed the respect and esteem of all sections of the community. He was at all times ready to give a helping hand to those in need, and throughout his life he gave generously of his time and energies in the interests of public affairs. For a lengthy period he was secretary of the Lansdowne branch of the M.U.I.O.O.F. The late Mr Mitchell is survived by his widow (nee Miss Agnes Potts, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Potts, of Taree), together with one son, Mr George Mitchell, of Broadmeadow, and five daughters, Mesdames C. Allan (Lansdowne), James Riley (Lansdowne), George Gilbert (Lansdowne), Thomas Fahey (Upper Lansdowne) and Veryl, aged 13, at home: He also leaves a brother, Mr Clarence Mitchell, of Sydney; and two sisters, Mrs T. R. McLaughlin (Lansdowne) and Mrs L. A. Clinch (Sydney). At 11 a.m. to day (Wednesday) a service is to be conducted at the Church of England at Lansdowne, following which the remains will be laid to rest in the Lansdowne Cemetery. Rev. B. C. Dickson will conduct the services at the church and graveside, and Mr W. T. Howard has the funeral arrangements in hand.
