Lewis, son of John Whiting, Jun'r, and Rebecca Whiting, born Nov'r 23'd, 1770.

  2. No evidence directly identifies the Lewis Whiting who married Lydia Young as the son of John and Rebecca, but not only Lewis, but presumably his sisters Sally and Rebecca married in Warwick in the space of about 3 years, and while Source:Lazell, Theodore S. Whiting Genealogy, p. 36, does not list the children of John and Rebecca Whiting, does say that the father "d. 'in Warwick'". Thus it seems very probable that is the lineage of this Lewis.
  3. 3.0 3.1 The births of the children of Lewis and Lydia are found in Bernardston, so the gravestone found there likely belongs to the father. However, the gravestone is damaged and the year of death cannot be read, and so this cannot be said conclusively.

    Mr. Lewis Whiting
    died
    31 Oct. [damaged] AE.
    63.

If this is, indeed, Lewis Whiting, then the year of death could be 1833 or 1834 depending on whether the 63 is an age, of the year of his age.

There is a probate file in Franklin county Case 5297 for a Lewis Whiting of Gill, who left a widow Elizabeth Whiting. Probate was opened 10 Mar 1835 which may align with a death in 1834. The estate is small and virtually the whole of it is allowed to the widow, so there is no other genealogical information to be found in the file. (The son of the Lewis of this page is case 5298 so this is not his file.) There is a record of a marriage in Bernardston in 1818 to Elizabeth Hale (here), and since the son is otherwise accounted for, this appears to be the father.

Lewis Whiting appears to have resided in Bernardston in 1820 and 1830. No Lewis Whiting shows up in Gill and Gill VRs show no birth, death or marriage under the surname Whiting.
