  5. Lewis Cass was a Michigan senator who served in the Cabinets of Andrew Jackson and James Buchanan. He was also the 1848 Democratic presidential nominee, and had been he governor of Michigan for 20 years before holding federal office. At the time of Lewis Morrow's birth in 1851, he was back in the Senate following the failed presidential run.
