- ↑ Kincy owned a lumber yard in Chapman, AL near Georgiana. He built railroad trestles for the Confederate Army and later for the US Government. He donated the lumber that was used in the building of the Fisrt Methodist Church of Georgiana. When Kincy died in 1912, the church burned to the ground. Coincidence?
During the Civil War, Kincy lived in Pensacola, FL. When the Federal Forces overtook Fort Pickins and Fort Barrancas in Pensacola Bay, the city government of Pensacola was moved to Georgiana so that they could continue to conduct business. Kincy left at the same time and also settled in Georgiana. Both he and his wife are buried there in the Methodist Church Yard.
The present day First Methodist Church of Georgiana has a memorial to Kincy in the lobby area of the chapel. Inside the church, a stained glass window has the name "K.L. Davis" inscribed in it as a memorial to his role in the founding of that church.
I have many letters that Kincy wrote during the Civil War years that were sent to his sisters and others. In one letter he writes that his "given name was Lewis Kincy Davis but" he always wrote his name as "Kincy Lewis Davis because that's what people call me".
