!BITUARY; Waterloo Press; 25 Dec 1913; DeKalb County, IN Lewis Chapman, son of Lemuel and Ruth Hardinger Chapman, was born July 11, 1832 in Ashland County, Ohio, died December 14, 1913 aged 81 years, ? mos and 28 days. He was of a family of nine children, all having proceded him to life beyond except 2 sisters Nancy Shaddock of Nebraska and Elizabeth Bemenderfer of Ashley and a brother Richard of Ohio. He was married on March 19, 1860 to Mary B. Duncan and to them was born seven children, all of whom survive....Jennie Shafer of Hudson, William Chapman of Iowa and Edward Chapman of Nebraska. Lewis Chapman came to the state in early manhood and was a teacher in public schools. After his marriage he settled on a farm ? miles north of Waterloo, which he owned at the time of his death. He leaves a wife, 7 children, 2 sisters, 1 brother, 22 grandchildren, and 1 great grand child committing his to his heavenly father who deals justly with all His children. Funeral services held Tuesday afternoon in Ashley M. E. conducted by C. H. Hickman. Burial at Circle Cemetery.
