With his parents he moved to Ringgold Co., Iowa and settled in Poe Township near Mt. Ayr, IA. At age 22 he enlisted in Company M 3d regiment of Iowa Calvary Volunteers 15 Aug 1861. He served 3 years and was discharged 19 Sept 1864. After returning from the Army he erected his home hauling lumber from Ottumwa Iowa. His family was raised in this house. Levi Jr. led in the use of new farming machinery.

    Levi Stockwell Terwilliger was born February 22, 1839, in Coshocton county, Ohio, and departed this life April 16, 1915, aged 76 years, one month and twenty-four days. He had been complaining some of late of heart trouble which was the cause of his death. He came to Ringgold county sixty-one years ago and enlisted in Company M, 3rd regiment of Iowa Cavalry Volunteers August 15, 1861; he served three years and was discharged September 13, 1864, at Keokuk, Iowa, and returned to his farm in Ringgold county where he has resided continuously until time of his death. He was married to Sarah McConnell December 16, 1869. Nine children were born to this union, seven of which are living: Day, Mack and Gay Terwilliger, Mrs Jeannie Greenrod, Mrs. Lona Main, Miss Ivy Terwilliger and Mrs. Lena Foster of Chariton, Iowa. Mamie died at the age of sixteen, and Ara died in infancy. One brother and three sisters are still living but were not able to attend the funeral. The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon, April 18, at the family residence. The Rev. Victor West of Kellerton, officiating. Interment was made in the Leasanville cemetery.
