LESTER AND CLARINDA BASSETT Lester and Clarinda are found in the 1880 Federal Census for Springfield Township, Lagrange County, Indiana, p. 342C. The census shows the couple as both white, married and ages 54 and 53 respectively. Lester's occupation is listed as stonemason, and Clarinda is shown to be keeping house. During the year, Lester was never unemployed, but he is marked as blind. Lester was born in New York, as were his parents. Clarinda is reported as unable to write. She was born in Ohio, with her father born in Pennsylvania and her mother born in Virginia. (This does not jibe with death certificate.)

LESTER AND CLARINDA BASSETT Lester Bassett was found in the 1870 Federal Census for Springfield Township, Lagrange County, Indiana, p. 23 (304). The census shows that he and wife Clarinda. own own real estate valued at $1000. They also have a personal estate valued at $209. At the time the census was taken on June 1, 1870, Lester is shown to be 46 years old and Clarinda is 45. Lester is marked as a male eligible to vote. Neither had attended school within the year, but both are able to read and write.

According to the census, Lester was born in New York. Clarinda was also born in New York. Lester's occupation is shown as a stone mason. Clarinda is listed as keeping house. Also in the residence are a daughter named Esaline, aged 8 years of age. In 1870 (making her born ca. 1862). She did attend school during the year. A Wm. Meyers and Ella Meyers are also given at this residence. Wm is listed as a Farm Laborer, and Ella is keeping house. Personal property for Wm Meyers is listed as $180. He was born in New York, is eligible to vote. Elle is shown as born in Indiana.
