Soon after marrying Henry Bell they had a house built at 3200 Fairmount Boulevard (Portland, OR) which was designed by the architect Will Martin (more well known for designing Pioneer Courthouse Square). This house was a three story tall cube, with the entire front consisting of an octagonal window. This house was featured in Sunset Magazine.

    Ms. Nusom was born Leona Mary Fisher on Sept. 15, 1935, in Portland and was raised in Scappoose. She graduated from Scappoose High School and the University of Portland School of Nursing and received a master's degree from the University of Oregon Medical School of Nursing. A registered nurse, she worked in the operating room at St. Vincent Hospital, in nursing education at Good Samaritan Hospital and Providence Portland Medical Center and for Providence Health Plans. After retiring in 1999, she worked on call for Providence Portland Medical center in its competency assesment program. In 1970, she worked with Project Hope in Tunisia. In 1974, she married Henry Bell; he died in 1994. She married Dale Nusom in 1998.
