  7. Lee S. Van Wagoner, former Oxford buisinessman and director of Oxford Savings Bank, died at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Saturday. He would have been 76 in August. Mr. Van Wagoner spent all his life in the Oxford area and was involved in numerous community activities. He retired in January, 1964 after just over 36 years of operating a drug store here. He was graduated form Wayne University in 1934, but had begun working in his brother Ray's drug store prior to that. This initial store was in the same location as Noble's (5 S. Washington). Ray who owned Van Wagoner Drugs in Lake Orion, bought the Harris Drug Store (Noble's ) in 1927. Later, Lee Van Wagoner bought out his brother and in 1934 bought the corner stoare at 1 S. Main. He sold it to Bill Patterson in 1964. In 1959 he was named to the board of directors of Oxford Savings Bank. During his years in the drug store, Mr. Van Wagoner served on the Oxford Board of Education for six years, four as president. He also spent a term on the village council, was on the Board of Review and the Planning commission. He was a life member of the Knights of Pythias and a member of the Oxford Methodist Church. Mr. Van Wagoner was a pilot for 50 years and had an air strip on a farm north of Oxford. This is the same strip used by the sail planes today. After selling the pharmacy, Mr. Van Wagoner became a distributor in Oakland county of portable therapeutic oxygen units. Lee Van Wagoner and Alice Cadaret were married here in April, 1930. They lived on Dennison Street in Oxford many years, but moved to 870 Eugene a few years ago. They have two children, James of Florence, Arizona and Mrs. Janet Baty of Ann Arbor. The Van Wagoners have four grandchildren. Other relatives surviving Mr. Van Wagoner besides his wife, are his brothers, Ray of Lake Orion, General Lou of Washington D.C., and Dave Varran of Ellentown Florida. A sister, Mrs. Ervilla Stoelt of Detroit, also survives. Memorial services were Tuesday from Bossardet Funeral Home. The Reverends Fred Clark and Dave Russell officiated. Burial was in Ridgelawn Cemetery.
